Padel court dimensions
Size, walls, net and service line — all the measurements of a padel court at a glance.
A padel court is smaller than a tennis court and enclosed by glass and mesh. Here are the key measurements and why the walls are part of the game.
The measurements at a glance
The playing area measures 20 by 10 metres, with a tolerance of 0.5 per cent. The lines are 5 centimetres wide. A 10-metre net splits the court into two equal halves.
| Measurement | Value |
|---|---|
| Playing area | 20 × 10 m (200 m²) |
| Line width | 5 cm |
| Net length | 10 m |
| Net height centre | 0.88 m |
| Net height at the posts | at most 0.92 m |
| Service line | 6.95 m from the net |
| Walls at the ends | 4 m (3 m wall or glass + 1 m fence) |
| First 2 m of the long sides | 4 m |
| Next 2 m of the long sides | 3 m |
| Rest of the long sides | fence or wire mesh, at least 3 m |
The walls: why padel is different
At both ends and along the first two metres of the long sides the court is enclosed four metres high: three metres of wall or glass with a metre of fence above. For the next two metres the walls are three metres high. The remaining stretches of the long sides are fence or wire mesh of at least three metres.
These walls are part of the game. After a bounce on the floor the ball may rebound off glass and walls. That makes rallies longer and the game easier for beginners than tennis. Read more in the padel rules.
Padel and tennis compared
| Padel | Tennis (doubles) | |
|---|---|---|
| Length × width | 20 × 10 m | 23.77 × 10.97 m |
| Area | approx. 200 m² | approx. 261 m² |
| Net height centre | 0.88 m | 0.914 m |
| Walls | glass and fence, in play | none |
Padel needs much less space than tennis, so several courts fit on one site. Operators often build them in halls or on rooftops. If you plan a court, ask the manufacturer for the exact space requirements on top of the playing area, since access, lighting and safety margins add to it.
Where to find a court
